Switzerland beat Northern Ireland 0-1 at Belfast after the referee awarded the visitors a controversial penalty kick that was converted by Ricardo Rodriguez to give Switzerland a huge advantage before the second leg tie.
Switzerland enjoyed more possession and also created more goal scoring opportunity than the host side but Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley stood strong at the back line before the penalty call in the 57th minute that left O’Neill’s side aggrieved.
