After Zidane’s shock retirement, Real Madrid have been in search for a successor for the very successful Zidane.
Among the favorites to be offered the contract at the Bernebeau were Guti, Mauricio Pochettino, Villas Boas and Antonio Conte.
Surprisingly, earlier today the Los Blancos announced the appointment of the Spanish Head coach Julen Lopetegui as their new manager.
Julen Lopetegui took over from Del Bosque in 2016 and will be leading the Spanish National side to Russia 2018.
The 51-year-old current contract with Spain runs till 2020 but the Offer from Real Madrid is one that he could not reject. He will be officially announced as the New boss after the World Cup in Russia and is expected to commence immediately.
Julen Lopetegui is an Ex Madridsta, he played as a Goal Keeper for the All Whites before joining bitter rivals FC Barcelona. Lopetegui was in charge of Madrid’s feeder’s team in 2008/09 before he took the job of the Spanish youth coach. He went on to win two consecutive U19 and U21 European Championship in 2012, but has been less successful at club level.
In 2003, he was fired in a shot spell in charge of Rayo Vallecano, the same fate followed him at Fc Porto after he failed to win a silverware in the 2014/15 season.
Sources close to the Madrid board believe that Julen Lopetegui was appointed due to his close relationship with the players in the National team.
